"Coinin (b. 1991, Edmonton, Alberta) is a digital artist and writer based in Edmonton. Using a Ugee tablet and Affinity Photo, Coinin creates bold digital illustrations marked by flowing linework, expressive gestures, and vibrant colors, often laced with subtle humor. Blending visual storytelling with mental health advocacy, Coinin’s work is both striking and emotionally resonant.
Influenced by fantasy, science fiction, superheroes, and horror, Coinin’s art ranges from grotesque to beautiful, shaped by personal experience and a background in non-profit healthcare. Central to the practice is illustrating evidence-based mental health concepts, using art to process trauma and foster dialogue on resilience. A key project is IFS (Internal Family Systems) (2021–2025), a comic series about a trauma survivor learning to move beyond destructive coping mechanisms, weaving fantasy and horror with therapeutic insight.
Coinin has contributed to the community as an art facilitator with Doodlebugs (2017–present) and the Bissell Center (2024). Publications include Western Exotic First Tymerz (2024) and Western Exotic Mini Zine (2024). In 2021, Coinin received the Best Visual Piece award in the “Down with Man Up” Media Contest by Cornerstone Counselling, highlighting both artistic excellence and dedication to mental health awareness."
